Aluminium and uPVC are the two materials most Indian homeowners end up comparing once timber is off the table, and the honest answer is that neither is universally better — they trade off differently on strength, appearance, and lifespan.

Aluminium's biggest advantage is strength-to-weight ratio: a slim aluminium frame can support far more glass and span a wider opening than a uPVC frame of similar thickness, which is why large picture windows, wide sliding doors, and corner glazing are almost always aluminium. uPVC frames need to be considerably bulkier to achieve similar strength, which shows up visually as less glass and more frame.

uPVC's traditional advantage has been thermal insulation, since plastic conducts heat far less than metal — though a well-engineered aluminium system with a thermal break and a TEXGUARD-coated, double-glazed unit closes most of that gap in practice. Where aluminium still clearly wins is longevity and structural stability: it doesn't warp, sag, or discolour under UV exposure the way uPVC can over 10–15 years in a hot climate.

For a coastal, high-UV city like Mumbai, aluminium tends to be the more durable long-term choice, particularly for larger openings and high-rise wind conditions. uPVC still has a place — it can be a reasonable, lower-cost option for smaller, standard-sized openings where extreme spans and decades of harsh sun exposure aren't the deciding factor.
